防彈玻璃是由多片不同厚度的透明浮法玻璃和多片PVB膠片科學的組合而成，為了增加玻璃的防彈性能，玻璃的厚度和PVB的厚度都增加了，由于玻璃和PVB膠粘合得非常牢固，幾乎成為了一個整體，且因玻璃較高的硬度而PVB膠片具有良好的韌性，當子彈接觸玻璃，它們的沖擊能力北削弱到很低乃至為零，所以不能穿透。同樣，金屬的撞擊也只能將玻璃擊碎而不能穿透，因此起到防彈防盜的效果。各單片玻璃的厚度和成品玻璃的總厚度視場所而定。

    適用范圍：軍事防御、銀行柜臺的護衛玻璃、珠寶玉器、金銀首飾等貴重物品展示柜以及其他特定工作。

    防彈玻璃實際上是由透明膠合材料將多片玻璃或高強度有機板材粘接在一起制成的。一般有以下三層結構：

　　③安全防護層：這一層采用高強度玻璃或高強透明有機材料，有較好的彈性和韌性，能吸收絕大部分沖擊能，并保證子彈不能穿過此層

　　防彈玻璃最重要的性能指標就是防彈能力。防彈能力的指標是從兩方面來衡量的，一方面是安全防護能力，另一方面是所防護槍支的殺傷能力

    防護原理：在炸彈攻擊和意外爆炸事件中，防炸彈玻璃可以最大限度地減少爆炸沖擊波超高荷載和高速飛濺的玻璃碎片所造成的直接傷害，減少受攻擊設施或爆炸中心周圍設施的修復費用。防炸彈玻璃在爆炸沖擊波能量形成的荷載劇增，增大幾倍甚至幾十倍條件下保持不穿透，玻璃保持性值RET≈1。而單片玻璃(包括浮法玻璃，鋼化玻璃，中空玻璃)一旦破碎，只要稍超過臨界破碎壓力RET很快就跌到0.3以下，玻璃碎片散落，出現穿透性破壞。
